Bowman Audio Endeavors Threshold Maximizer is a Rat inspired distortion pedal with its own unique spin. There have been countless versions of the Rat distortion from various pedal builders over the years. While each one serves its purpose for a specific player, the Threshold Maximizer from Bowman Audio takes the cake when it comes to head room, filter sweep, and the highest quality components.Designed in collaboration with Canadian heavy-rockers, The Dirty Nil, this distortion is specifically based off of the 1986 “Version 3-B” ProCo rat belonging to the band’s guitarist, Luke Bentham. Known to have his Threshold Maximizer on all the time in the general form of a preamp, Bentham utilizes his guitar’s volume control and pickup switching to unleash the fury of the pedal or tame it back to clean when necessary. But hey, that’s just one player’s preference. Set the pedal as heavy or light as you would like and stomp it on and off to engage/disengage distorted sonic booms. With its LM308 op amp chip, the Threshold Maximizer can go louder than all its distant relatives without risking as much microphonic-like feedback. It’s prepped and ready to punish the front end of your rig however much you decide, yet just friendly enough to back off and calm down if you ask it to nicely. Versatile, clear, and downright dirty, the Bowman Audio Threshold Maximizer is a pedalboard must for Rat fans everywhere.
