Way back in 1942, Gibson’s J-45 broke ground for a new generation of musicians and today’s Gibson J-45 Special sets out for a similar impact. The Gibson J-45 earned its nickname “The Workhorse” due to its versatility and robust sonic profile and today’s J-45 Special is no different.
The Gibson J-45 Special was crafted in Gibson’s Bozeman, Montana factory in its classic, round-shoulder profile. This iconic Gibson silhouette comes together with genuine solid mahogany for its back and sides and solid Sitka spruce for its top. A classic assembly of tonewoods, the J-45 Special is an icon among acoustic guitars with solid projection and an expressive voice. Only enhanced by a thinner body profile than your traditional J-45, this Special model slips seamlessly under the arm. This J-45’s top, braced with traditional, scalloped X-bracing, is stable and acts as a formidable springboard off which rich acoustic voices can fly.
Moving on from the body, this J-45 extends out with a utile neck in a SlimTaper profile. This neck, effortlessly gripped and played, offers an easy runway for campfire chords and articulate melodies alike. Enhanced by the J-45’s rosewood fingerboard, the playing experience in the fretting hand comes together with twenty frets and Mother of Pearl dot inlays for an experience that is as easy on the eyes as it is on the fingers. This J-45 Special’s neck is brought to the body with precise hide glue assembly through a compound dovetail neck-to-body joint.
Onboard, the J-45 Special loads in a series of fine hardware specifications to bring out the best in sound and playability. First, a TUSQ nut and Grover Rotomatic tuners work to ground strings stably by the headstock. Second, a traditional Belly Up rosewood bridge matches at the opposite end with a TUSQ saddle. These hardware specifications allow for the stringing and playing experience to be vibrant and responsive while onboard L.R. Baggs Element Bronze electronics capture the rich sounds of this J-45 for the stage and studio. In any instance, the J-45 Special fulfills its nickname the Workhorse. A premium soft shell acoustic case is included with this Gibson model.
Following up decades of fine acoustic tonality through the J-45, today’s Gibson J-45 Special matches its predecessors’ generations of acoustic good will. For any Gibson acoustic aficionado, the Workhorse is back as you’ve always known it.
