In 1963, the iconic Thunderbird Bass made its debut, and its legacy continues with the Epiphone Rex Brown Thunderbird Bass, built in collaboration with metal maestro Rex Brown.
The body of the Rex Brown Thunderbird Bass is cut from mahogany, and features neck-through construction, a hallmark of the Thunderbird series. The neck is constructed using 9-ply combination of walnut and mahogany, boasting a comfortable and familiar C-shaped profile. On the neck, a 20-fret Indian laurel fingerboard is topped with classic Dot inlays, offering a total scale length of 34 inches. Gold die-cast tuning machines, featuring mini clover buttons, up the aesthetic of this instrument in contract to the Ebony finish of the body and matching headstock.
In the realm of tone, the Rex Brown Thunderbird Bass features Epiphone’s own ProBuckerTM 760 bass pickups with nickel cover plating. These humbuckers deliver a thunderous punch, capturing the essence of Rex Brown’s signature tone, inspired by early models of the Thunderbird. The individual volume controls for each pickup provide players with precise tonal versatility, fine-tuning and customization. The master tone knob, equipped with smooth CTS pots, allowing players to control the bite of these pickups to their own liking.
The Rex Brown Thunderbird Bass comes complete with a specially designed Epiphone Hardshell case featuring a reproduction of Rex Brown’s signature. The clear pickguard, polymist gold back-sprayed with the Thunderbird logo in gold, and the rear control cover featuring Rex Brown’s logo doodle drives the feeling of a personalized and authentic touch home.
