This Epiphone ’59 ES-355 in Classic White is part of a long history that sees the depths of the early electric guitar industry. Although this iteration of the ES-355 features one output, many of the early 355 models were manufactured with two outputs to be played in stereo, originally introduced in 1958 as Gibson’s premier semi-hollow guitar.
Eventually, Gibson opted to only produce mono versions of the ES-355, like this model, now made by Epiphone and featuring a body made entirely of 5-ply layered maple and poplar. The body boasts a 7-ply top binding, 3-ply back binding, 5-ply headstock binding and a single-ply fingerboard binding, all adding a touch of elegance to the body.
With a neck made from a single piece of mahogany, carved to a ’50s Rounded C profile, this guitar offers a comfortable, vintage-inspired feeling to the fretting hand. Atop the neck, a fingerboard made from ebony boasts a 24.75-inch scale length, 22 frets, and Mother-of-Pearl Block inlays. The nut is made from Graph Tech, and the headstock boasts Grover’s Rotomatic tuning machines in a gold-plated finish.
Part of the “Inspired by Gibson Custom Shop” collection, this guitar comes stocked with Gibson’s own Custombucker pickups, offering vintage-inspired and hand wired to CTS pots and Mallory caps, all controlled by a Switchcraft pickup selector. Finished in a simple VOS (Vintage original Sheen) Classic White gloss, the guitar’s color understates the beautiful silhouette of this ES-355 model.
This instrument comes with a custom brown hard case with a pink interior and featuring the “Inspired by Gibson” logo.
