This is a vintage 1986 Marshall JCM800 2204 50 watt head. The JCM800 is renown for its saturated and cutting distortion, paving the way for heavier music throughout the ’80s. The 2204 (and it’s larger sibling the 100w 2003) were the first Marshall amps to incorporate a master volume in order to break up at more manageable levels than the earlier “Plexi” models. Also in 1986, Marshall implemented a component change that increased the total capacitance, making the High Tension Voltage supply more efficient. Consequently, when the amp is really cranked there is a decrease in both power amp sag and compression, making it even more aggressive.
This model is good condition, it has some wear and tearing throughout the tolex and faceplate. The faceplate also has skull sticker on it by the power switches. The amp was modded about 10 years ago to have an FX Loop that utilizes one of the speaker outputs and the DI output. It also received new capacitors around that same time. The amp functions properly but does have some dirty potentiometers, namely the “Mid”, “Treble” and “Preamp” controls.
