There’s usual sorts of preconceived notions that come to mind when you talk about synthesizer guitar pedals the Meris Enzo X Modular Instrument Synthesizer seeks to deconstruct all of them. An interstellar expansion on the beloved Meris Enzo pedal, the Enzo X is a bold breakthrough in guitar synthesizing technology.
At the heart of the Enzo X are five synthesizer modes incorporated into a modular system UI taken from the Meris LVX and MercuryX pedals. This powerful and intuitive interface allows for easy mixing through the Enzo X’s vast world of synthesized tones. The core of the Enzo X is made up five synthesizer modes including Mono, Polyphonic, and Dry Processing modes. These modes drive the entirety of the Enzo X’s robust sonic palette all without the need for any external pickup. The Enzo X’s polyphony reaches up to six voices available simultaneously for extensively complex matrixes of synthesized sounds.
Onboard, the Enzo X is deeply customizable with physical and digital control interfaces. Among the many (many) parameters to be controlled, the Enzo X features a suite of synthesizer oscillator and filter types, saw, triangle, and square waveforms selectable per oscillator and ADSR envelope generators for both the amplitude and filter effect sections. This massively powerful synthesis engine is accompanied by a number of onboard effects like three reverbs adapted from the MercuryX, five overdrive algorithms, a full stereo delay, and five modulation types. Empowering players to craft massively expressive synthesis formulas, the Meris Enzo X is an astoundingly formidable effect pedal.
Past its sonic engine, the Enzo X expands out with an impressive host of connectivity options to prove its mettle as a blisteringly modern unit. First off, the Enzo X features four responsive footswitches for navigating through its intuitive internal UI. Among these footswitches is a dedicated Expressive Hold Modifier switch that inspires on-the-fly control of various Enzo X parameters.
Connectivity plays a large role in the Enzo X’s interface, as pairs of stereo inputs and outputs allow for mono or stereo input and output routing. These connections expand the experience of the Enzo X with MIDI in and out jacks. The Enzo X’s MIDI capabilities allow for continuous external control, preset send and receive, and beat clock synchronization. MIDI plays a large role in the Enzo X as it enables its abilities to be operated by a MIDI keyboard in addition to its usual guitar pedal utility plug in an instrument or a MIDI keyboard and the Enzo X’s powers are all yours.
Among the many (many) features that make the Enzo X an incredible unit for synthesis, it is clear that Meris did their homework on what made the original Enzo great and how to best expand upon it. For fans of the original Enzo or of effect pedal synthesizers in general, you’ve likely heard about the Enzo X already, so we won’t belabor the point it’s exceptional.
